Lesotho PAC orders nursing audit following license fraud allegations
The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has ordered an immediate audit of all nursing staff at Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) following allegations of professional license fraud. The directive comes after Mantsane Likotsi, a nursing assistant at QMMH, admitted during a committee inquiry that she never sat for the required nursing licensure examination.
Likotsi alleged that her certificate was obtained through the assistance of her former husband, Khotso Matabane, described as a politically connected individual. She further claimed she had received death threats after questioning the origins of the certificate.
In response, the PAC has ordered the Lesotho Nursing Council (LNC) Registrar to revoke Likotsi’s certificate and directed QMMH Human Resources to terminate her employment. Due to concerns that this case may not be isolated, the PAC Chairperson, ‘Machabana Lemphane Letsie, has demanded a comprehensive audit of all QMMH nursing staff and a detailed list of all LNC-licensed nurses to verify their examination dates and registration credentials. The credibility of the LNC is also under scrutiny.
