Lester Martínez to defend WBC interim super middleweight title

Guatemalan boxer Lester Martínez is set to make his first defense of the WBC interim super middleweight title on Saturday, August 29, in Los Angeles, California. Martínez, who holds an undefeated record of 20 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw with 16 knockouts, will face undefeated Croatian fighter Luka Plantić.

Training from his camp in the United States, Martínez issued a call for support from his fellow Guatemalans, stating, “Friends, remember that on August 29 we have a very big commitment.” He emphasized the importance of representing his country, adding, “Let’s show the world who we are, where we come from, and where we are going.”

The bout is scheduled to take place at the USC Galen Center as part of the Chapín Festival. Martínez originally secured the interim title in March 2026 after a unanimous decision victory over Immanuwel Aleem.
