Lesvos Petrified Forest Museum announces new guided tours

The Lesvos Petrified Forest Natural History Museum is organizing guided tours and experiential programs to showcase the fossilized forest, a UNESCO Global Geopark and one of the world’s most significant geological monuments.

Recent conservation and excavation efforts have revealed new fossil sites, including the 'Phylakio' park, 'Kotsini' park, and the 'Petrified Intersection' park. These sites feature diverse findings, such as standing and fallen trunks of coniferous and angiosperm trees. Notable discoveries include a 7.2-meter-tall standing sequoia trunk, which is identified as the tallest standing fossilized trunk in the world.

To celebrate 25 years of the museum's permanent exhibition spaces, researchers and geologists will lead visitors through these newly developed outdoor parks. The tours aim to demonstrate the processes of petrification, as well as the ongoing methods used for the protection, maintenance, and restoration of these ancient botanical remains.
