Lesvos police arrest two for trafficking counterfeit IDs at airport
Police in Lesvos have dismantled a portion of a criminal ring involved in the trafficking of counterfeit identification documents. The operation took place at Mytilene Airport on the evening of Thursday, September 17.
Authorities arrested an 18-year-old male who was allegedly acting on behalf of a criminal organization to deliver forged documents for a fee. He was found in possession of a counterfeit French identity card. Simultaneously, a 16-year-old was detained for attempting to board a flight to Athens using a forged Spanish identity card. The teenager was reportedly attempting to bypass residency restrictions imposed by authorities.
During the investigation, police seized two counterfeit identity documents and a mobile phone. The investigation suggests that at least three other individuals are involved in the ring. The suspects face charges including participation in a criminal organization, forgery of certificates, attempted violation of residency restrictions, and immigration law violations.
