Lesvos Relay 2026 to feature 320 km run around the island
The Lesvos Relay 2026 is scheduled to take place on September 5 and 6, 2026. Organized by Lesvos Runners, the North Aegean Region, and the Lesvos Petrified Forest Natural History Museum, this non-competitive running event aims to highlight the island's status as a UNESCO Global Geopark.
The relay will cover a total distance of 320 kilometers around the perimeter of Lesvos through 36 consecutive stages ranging from 2 to 17 kilometers in length. The event begins at 08:00 on Saturday, September 5, at Sappho Square in Mytilene, moving north toward Mandamados before traveling counter-clockwise around the island. The relay is expected to return to Sappho Square by approximately 18:00 on Sunday.
Participants will pass through 42 geological sites and monuments, including volcanic landscapes, protected areas, and wetlands. Key locations on the route include the volcanoes of Lepetymnos, Skoutaros-Anemotia, and Vatousa, as well as the Petrified Forest protected area and the Natural History Museum in Sigri. The route also encompasses Eresos, Mesotopos, Agia, the Kalloni Gulf wetlands, Lake Gera, and the Amali peninsula.
