Letitia James accused of hypocrisy over whistleblower records release

New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing accusations of hypocrisy following the release of personnel records belonging to Daniel Wiesenfeld, a whistleblower within the Investor Protection Bureau.

Wiesenfeld, a prosecutor, has alleged that his management pressured him to pursue an insider trading investigation against Donald Trump despite a lack of evidence. Records obtained via a Freedom of Information Law request show that the Attorney General’s office released internal emails and documents regarding Wiesenfeld, which included counseling him for performance issues such as failing to participate in meetings.

Richard Azzopardi, a former senior adviser to ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo, criticized the move, noting that his own actions regarding the release of staffer records during the Cuomo administration were previously labeled as retaliation by James’ team. Azzopardi argued there is “no daylight” between the two situations.
