Letitia James challenges election jurisdiction and rules

New York Attorney General Letitia James stated that the U.S. Postal Service and the president do not have jurisdiction over elections, asserting that election administration is a constitutional responsibility of the states.

James announced that she and other Democratic attorneys general intend to challenge a rule that she claims will cause “chaos and confusion” in North Carolina. She argued the rule is an attempt to suppress voting rights and intends to take the legal fight to the United States Supreme Court. The dispute involves the upcoming mailing of ballots to citizens and members of the armed forces.
