Italian cities confront rising security concerns

In Teramo, Fratelli d'Italia councilor Luca Corona urged the municipality to adopt stronger measures to address what he described as a growing sense of insecurity among residents.

In Empoli, the Futuro Nazionale Empolese‑Valdelsa movement cited a recent hospital attack and a stabbing in Piazza della Vittoria, demanding increased police presence, expanded video surveillance, zero‑tolerance policies and the expulsion of illegal immigrants who commit crimes.

Former mayor and europarliamentarian Letizia Moratti criticized the Sala administration in Milan for an "unacceptable" level of insecurity after the stabbing death of a 22‑year‑old at Certosa station, calling for decisive action in collaboration with the Prefecture and law‑enforcement forces.

In Terni, the Italian Left denounced the proposed “neighbourhood control” scheme as dangerous, arguing that security must stem from well‑served, socially cohesive neighbourhoods rather than from citizen‑run patrols.

Additionally, Filippo Barberis, chief of staff to Milan’s mayor, had his driver’s licence withdrawn following a repeat red‑light violation, illustrating strict enforcement of traffic rules.
