Letterkenny University Hospital gets design team for new surgical hub

The Health Service Executive (HSE) West and North West announced that a design team led by HLM Architects and Kevin Jackson Architects has been appointed to develop a new Surgical Hub and Ambulatory Oncology facility at Letterkenny University Hospital in Donegal, Ireland. The hub will comprise two new operating theatres, two minor operating rooms and 30 ambulatory day‑oncology chairs (15 new, 15 replacement) adjacent to the existing hospital building, with provisions for future vertical expansion.

Design work is set to begin in August 2026, with planning documents expected to be lodged in the second quarter of 2027. The project, first announced by Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill in July, was highlighted by Minister Charlie McConalogue as a significant step for regional health services. Parallel planning for a similar surgical hub in Sligo is also progressing.
