Leudal municipality implements traffic safety measures in Ittervoort

The municipality of Leudal has implemented new traffic safety measures in Ittervoort following the opening of Kindcentrum Heijer. To accommodate the increased number of children walking or cycling to school, as well as parents dropping off students, the maximum speed limit on Brigittastraat and Margarethastraat has been reduced from 50 km/h to 30 km/h.

In addition to speed reductions, the local infrastructure has been updated to include a two-way bicycle path from Hunsel toward Ittervoort, bicycle crossings, dedicated bike lanes, road narrowings, and new signage. The area around the school now also features a Kiss & Ride zone and designated parking.

To complement these physical changes, the municipality has launched a behavioral campaign titled ‘Samen goed op weg’ (Together on the right way). The campaign aims to encourage road users to be mindful of one another and adapt to the new traffic flows, as officials noted that physical infrastructure alone cannot solve all safety concerns if driver behavior does not change.
