Leudal pilots new land use for former livestock farms

The municipality of Leudal is conducting a pilot program to determine how to repurpose former livestock farms in rural areas. The project involves two specific locations in Ell and Roggel that are part of government or provincial cessation schemes.

In Roggel, the plan involves converting a former livestock farm into a residential site, which will include a ban on the use of crop protection products following consultations with neighbors. In Ell, the site is intended to maintain an agricultural function, combining an arable farming business with a small-scale horse stable for a maximum of fifteen horses.

This pilot aims to establish a standardized system for amending environmental plans in the countryside. Previously, changes only recorded the cessation of livestock activities without specifying future functions or building regulations. The proposed plan will be available for public inspection for six weeks before a final decision is made by the municipal council.
