Leus du Plooy to leave Middlesex to pursue South Africa career

Cricketer Leus du Plooy has decided to leave Middlesex at the conclusion of the 2026 season to focus on his ambitions of representing the South African national team, the Proteas.

Du Plooy, who has served as Middlesex captain since June 2025, was previously contracted to the club at Lord's until 2027 as a local player. However, his decision to recommit to South Africa changes his registration status to overseas, which invalidates his existing contract.

During his tenure at Middlesex, Du Plooy recorded 2,795 first-class runs at an average of 51.75, including seven centuries. He has already secured a contract with the Titans for the 2026-27 domestic season in South Africa. While he has previously represented Hungary at the associate level, he has yet to be capped by either England or South Africa at the international level.
