Leuterod council rejects citizen initiative against wind farm

The Leuterod municipal council has unanimously voted to declare a citizen initiative against the planned ‘Windpark Drei Eichen’ wind farm project inadmissible. This decision follows a submission from the Verbandsgemeinde Wirges.

The citizen initiative, ‘Erhaltet unsere Natur und Wälder’, has criticized the council for a lack of substantive debate. Representatives of the initiative presented a detailed legal counter-position to the findings of the law firm Caspers Mock, arguing that the council is not bound by the legal assessment of the Verbandsgemeinde and should grant citizens a say through direct democracy.

The initiative expressed surprise that the council reached a decision immediately after their statements without further deliberation or a postponement to review the complex legal arguments. Legal steps are expected to follow the decision.
