Lev Slosberg: Russian prosecutor seeks 12-year prison term
Russian prosecutors have requested a sentence of 12 years and one month in a penal colony for Lev Slosberg, a prominent opposition politician and deputy chairman of the liberal Jabloko party. The request, made by prosecutor Anna Gorjatschewa at the Pskov City Court, is based on allegations that Slosberg discredited the Russian armed forces.
The charges stem from a 2022 Telegram post in which Slosberg shared a cover from the British Daily Mirror. The image featured a photo of a wounded Ukrainian woman alongside a portrait of Vladimir Putin, which the publication described as holding the president responsible for the conflict. Slosberg has argued that the post was made before Russia enacted its current war censorship laws.
This legal action coincides with the Russian Supreme Court's decision to exclude the Jabloko party from the upcoming September parliamentary elections. Slosberg has a prior conviction from November 2025, where he received 420 hours of community service for violating laws related to foreign agents. Defense lawyers have raised concerns regarding procedural irregularities during the current trial, including limited access to case files and consultation time.
