Lev Stupnikov: Russian officer aids Ukraine in strikes killing 300 soldiers

Russian Lieutenant Lev Stupnikov, a signals officer in the 36th Motorized Rifle Brigade, provided critical intelligence to Ukrainian forces that reportedly led to the deaths of over 300 Russian soldiers. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, Stupnikov began cooperating with Ukrainian intelligence in early 2024.

One significant operation involved Stupnikov providing coordinates and photographs of a Russian group of 120 to 150 soldiers preparing an offensive near Vuhledar. A subsequent Ukrainian missile strike killed 68 personnel, including ten officers, such as Colonel Gusein Musayev. Stupnikov also reportedly provided access codes to military communication channels and live feeds from Russian drones and surveillance cameras.

After his intelligence activities, Stupnikov defected across the front lines in July 2024 and joined the Russian Volunteer Corps to fight alongside Ukrainian forces.
