Leverkusen dormice webcam draws 300,000 views
The German nature conservation group NABU has installed a live‑stream webcam in a nest box in Leverkusen, Germany, to broadcast the early life of newborn dormice (Siebenschläfer). Seven babies, described as naked, pink and blind, were observed being cared for by their mother, who provides warmth and nutrient‑rich milk.
The livestream, dubbed “Siebenschläfer‑TV”, attracted more than 300,000 clicks in the past year, making it the most‑visited animal webcam in Germany. The project, which has been running for twelve years, equips nest boxes in the wild with cameras so the public can watch the juveniles grow, develop fur, be nursed, crawl and become increasingly independent.
