Levica criticizes North Macedonian government over demographic crisis

The political party Levica has issued sharp criticisms against the VMRO-DPMNE-led government regarding North Macedonia’s demographic crisis and social conditions. Party representative Jovana Mojsovska highlighted systemic issues, including months-long delays in maternity benefits, difficulties in securing kindergarten placements, and pregnant workers losing their jobs.

Levica specifically criticized Education Minister Vesna Janevska for suggesting that first-grade students should ask for 'little brothers or sisters' to address the declining population. The party argued that the demographic decline is not due to a lack of desire to have children, but rather due to mass emigration. They noted that approximately 3,000 fewer first-graders enrolled this year compared to last, as families leave the country in search of better living conditions.

The party maintains that the real issues driving young people away include low wages, lack of affordable housing, corruption, and a job market heavily dependent on political connections rather than merit.
