Levica party accuses Mickoski of misrepresenting North Macedonia's economy
The Levica party has accused North Macedonian Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski of misrepresenting the nation's economic health. The party claims that despite government reports of high economic growth, the reality for citizens is a struggle to cover basic living expenses.
Levica points to data suggesting that two minimum wages are insufficient to meet the minimum union basket of costs. They note that the minimum union basket is 68,675 denars per month, or 84,050 denars when including rent. With a minimum wage of 26,046 denars, two such salaries total only 52,092 denars, leaving a deficit of over 16,000 denars.
Citing Eurostat data from 2025, the party stated that Macedonia's GDP per capita, adjusted for purchasing power, was only 43 percent of the EU average, and real individual consumption was 50 percent of the EU average. Furthermore, Levica claims that for the first quarter of 2026, Macedonia ranked fourth among six Western Balkan nations, trailing Kosovo, Albania, and Serbia.
