SDSM accuses Levica of seeking BRICS membership for Macedonia

The Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) has issued a formal accusation against the Levica party, claiming the group is acting as a Russian satellite and seeking to integrate Macedonia into the BRICS bloc.

According to SDSM, Levica leaders Dimitar Apasiev, Redžep Ismail-Haktan, and Aleksandar Simonov participated in a BRICS forum in Moscow. During this visit, they held meetings with representatives from the Eurasian Economic Union and the Russian Union of Manufacturers. SDSM noted that Levica’s own communications suggest Macedonia has an interest in expanding diplomatic and economic horizons toward new global centers.

SDSM criticized the Levica leadership for meeting with Gennady Zyuganov, whom they described as being on a US blacklist. The opposition party further alleged that Levica holds anti-EU, anti-NATO, and anti-American stances, which contradicts Macedonia’s strategic Euro-Atlantic path. SDSM asserted that Macedonia’s future lies with the EU rather than becoming a Russian province or part of the BRICS framework.
