Levica party questions mosquito control spending in North Macedonia

The Levica political party in North Macedonia has raised concerns regarding the lack of transparency and measurable results in government spending on mosquito control measures. According to the party, millions of euros have been allocated for aircraft, preparations, and operators over several years, yet there is no public evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of these actions.

In Skopje alone, contracts for the 2020–2021 period cost approximately 1.1 million euros, followed by over 1 million euros for 2022–2023, with the current year's deal approaching 600,000 euros. Levica claims these three cycles total roughly 2.75 million euros, excluding municipal contracts and other years. The party noted that the same companies, such as ‘Primateks Branka’ and ‘Aeroklub Skopje’, appear repeatedly in these contracts.

While the Ministry has stated that the Institute of Public Health is responsible for monitoring the efficiency and legality of these funds through field data and monitoring, Levica argues that no such reports have been made public to prove the effectiveness of the spraying operations.
