Levica party withdraws from Tetovo street-naming commission
The local branch of the Levica party in Tetovo has officially withdrawn its representative, Nikola Todoroski, from the municipal working group responsible for naming and renaming streets. The party stated the decision was made for patriotic reasons to avoid legitimizing what they described as a historical betrayal and the erasure of the city’s anti-fascist history.
Levica expressed strong opposition to the proposed list of names, accusing the DPMNE–VREDI coalition of trading historical facts for personal interests. The party specifically demanded the immediate withdrawal of several controversial proposals, including Fadil Sulemani, due to alleged chauvinistic statements regarding Macedonian identity; Dzafer Sulejman, regarding his alleged role during the fascist occupation; and Sherif Kavazi, who is claimed to have served in a collaborationist administration during the same period.
The party is calling for a full investigation into the historical backgrounds of the proposed individuals and a re-examination of all suggested names to ensure they have a verified public contribution to the city.
