Levica proposes new state service for critical infrastructure protection

The Levica political party has proposed the creation of a new state service within the Ministry of Defense to provide physical security for critical civilian infrastructure. The proposal, presented by MP and Levica Vice President Redžep Ismail to the Legislative-Legal Committee, aims to address two primary issues: the insufficient protection of vital assets and the employment status of professional soldiers.

Under the proposal, the service would focus on protecting essential systems such as water supply and communication networks. Ismail argued that responsibility for such critical objects should rest with public state organs rather than being entrusted to private security firms.

Additionally, the plan seeks to utilize the expertise of professional soldiers who are over the age of 45 and no longer eligible to serve in the Army. This new service would operate under the Ministry of Defense but would remain distinct from the Army, allowing trained personnel to continue applying their military experience and knowledge to national security tasks.
