Levoča mourns death of former mayor Peter Pekarčík

The city of Levoča, Slovakia, has announced the death of former mayor Peter Pekarčík. Pekarčík served two terms as mayor from 1994 to 2002, leading the city through significant periods of social change and infrastructure development.

During his tenure, Pekarčík notably hosted a historic meeting of eleven Central European presidents in January 1998. A commemorative plaque remains in the city to mark this event. Before his time as mayor, he served as the chairman of the District National Committee in Spišská Nová Ves.
