Lewis Hamilton apologizes to Ferrari after strategic error in Singapore

Lewis Hamilton has taken full responsibility for a strategic error during the Singapore Grand Prix that cost him a podium finish. While running in third place, Hamilton opted not to pit during a Virtual Safety Car period on lap 39, despite instructions from the Ferrari pit wall. He chose to attempt a one-stop strategy using medium tires, but severe tire degradation in the closing laps caused him to drop from third to sixth place.

Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur confirmed the team had called both drivers in for a pit stop, noting that a successful double-stop would have likely secured a second and third place finish for the team. Hamilton apologized to his team over the radio, stating, “Sorry, boys. I let you down today with that strategy. My call, and I lost us valuable points.”

In addition to the sporting setback, Hamilton reported feeling unwell following the physically demanding 62-lap race in extreme heat and humidity. He was examined by the FIA medical team and was granted permission to skip post-race media obligations. Meanwhile, Max Verstappen won the race, and Charles Leclerc secured second place for Ferrari.
