Lewis Hamilton criticizes F1 circuit designs and race distance reductions
Lewis Hamilton has voiced strong criticisms regarding several technical and structural directions within Formula 1. During the Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend, the seven-time world champion expressed frustration over circuit designs that limit overtaking opportunities. He specifically cited the Madrid circuit, where limited passing opportunities led him to question the competence of those designing the tracks.
Additionally, Hamilton challenged the F1 Commission's decision to reduce standard Grand Prix distances from 305 to 290 kilometers starting in 2027. This change, intended to align with new power unit characteristics, was described by Hamilton as making “little sense.” He argued that races have become physically easier due to tire durability and current strategies, suggesting that the sport should instead move toward longer races to increase the physical challenge and strategic complexity.
