Lewiston police and firefighters respond to Libby Avenue fire

A house fire and intensive police search occurred on Libby Avenue in Lewiston on Monday night. Firefighters were dispatched to 14 Libby Ave. around 7:15 p.m., battling flames located on the roof and top floor of the residence.

Simultaneously, law enforcement conducted a significant operation in the surrounding area. Officers were observed searching nearby streets and wooded areas, some wielding long guns, while a drone was operated overhead. The Veterans Memorial Bridge was temporarily closed during the response.

As of Tuesday morning, officials had not confirmed if the police activity was directly linked to the fire or if the blaze was considered suspicious. The Maine Office of State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet identified any suspects, reported arrests, or confirmed if there were injuries.
