Lexar unveils Muse, an ultra-thin magnetic SSD for smartphones
Lexar has unveiled the Muse, a portable SSD designed specifically to expand the storage capacity of smartphones and tablets. Measuring just 3.8mm at its thickest point, the device is marketed as the world’s thinnest portable SSD.
Designed primarily for mobile filmmakers, the Muse features a magnetic connection system. It includes a magnetic sleeve that allows it to attach directly to the back of MagSafe-compatible iPhones. The drive supports direct external recording of Apple ProRes 4K video at up to 120fps on compatible models, addressing the high storage demands of professional mobile video formats.
The device utilizes a USB 3.2 Gen2 interface, offering read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds of up to 1,000 MB/s. It will be available in 512 GB and 1 TB capacities. Lexar plans to commercialize the product during the fourth quarter of 2026, offering a five-year warranty.
