Lexington park shooting kills one and wounds four
A mass shooting occurred at Charles Young Park in downtown Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday evening during an outdoor music festival. The incident left one person dead and four others wounded, including a 4-year-old and a 14-year-old. The four survivors sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Governor Andy Beshear was attending a Kentucky Democratic Party dinner at the nearby Hyatt Regency when the gunfire erupted. He addressed the attendees regarding the tragedy, noting the event occurred approximately one to one-and-a-half miles from the dinner location.
Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public. The city issued an emergency mobilization plan, declaring a police staffing emergency to assist with the response. The investigation into the shooting remains active.
