LexisNexis Austria introduces Agentic AI for legal research

LexisNexis Austria has announced the transition of its AI assistant to a new technological foundation known as Agentic AI. The upgrade, which evolves Lexis+ AI into Lexis+ with Protégé, aims to better support legal and tax professionals by automating multi-step research processes.

According to a survey involving LexisNexis and other legal organizations, only approximately 1% of Austrian legal professionals do not use AI in their daily work. However, nearly 69% of respondents report frequently correcting AI outputs, necessitating constant prompting and clarification.

To address this, the new Protégé technology is designed to mimic the methodical approach of human experts. It can decompose complex queries into sub-questions, search through case law, legislation, and professional literature, and evaluate intermediate results for relevance and legal context. The system is intended to reduce the manual effort required for repetitive prompting by autonomously adjusting its research path until a substantiated, citable answer is formulated.
