Lexus develops electric LFA supercar prototype

Lexus is advancing development on a successor to its iconic LFA supercar, with recent spy photographs revealing a camouflaged prototype undergoing testing. The upcoming model is expected to be a battery-electric vehicle, marking a significant departure from the original's V10 engine.

The new supercar is expected to share a chassis architecture with the Toyota GR GT and GR GT3, though it will lack their twin-turbocharged hybrid V8 engines. Based on the initial concept, the vehicle will be larger than the original LFA, measuring approximately 4.71 meters in length and 2.04 meters in width.

To replicate the visceral experience of a combustion engine, Lexus is reportedly working on software-driven features to simulate engine sounds and gear shifts. Patent filings suggest the car may include a simulated sequential gearbox that mimics the torque fluctuations of a traditional clutch. Production is anticipated to begin as early as 2027.
