Hanoi Police detain Lexus driver after multi-car highway accident
Hanoi Police have placed Nguyễn Văn Điện under criminal detention following a multi-vehicle accident on the Pháp Vân - Cầu Giẽ - Ninh Bình Expressway. On September 15, at approximately 1:31 PM, a Lexus driven by Điện exhibited reckless behavior, including swerving and cutting off other vehicles, before stopping abruptly in a lane near the median. This action caused a passenger bus to collide with two other cars, resulting in two injuries and damage to three vehicles.
Investigations by the Traffic Police Department revealed that the Lexus had previously violated speed limits on the expressway three times. Authorities are investigating the incident as a potential case of disturbing public order.
Separately, legal experts and highway officials have addressed the broader implications of pedestrian safety on expressways. Following a fatal incident involving a pedestrian, officials noted that highways are designed for high-speed transit and are not intended for foot traffic. Legal discussions have also highlighted the potential liability of highway management units if accidents are linked to inadequate fencing or failure to address known security breaches.
