Lexus NX unveiled with new hybrid technology and design
Lexus has unveiled a major facelift for its NX mid-size SUV, marking a significant shift toward electrification. The updated lineup will exclude traditional internal combustion engines, focusing exclusively on hybrid (HEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrains.
The flagship NX 450h+ PHEV features a new 23 kWh lithium-ion battery, increasing capacity by 30% and boosting electric range to over 100 km (WLTC/WLTP). For the first time in a Lexus PHEV, DC fast charging is available, capable of charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes. The system power has increased to 307 hp.
Technical upgrades include the next-generation e-Axle, which integrates the transaxle, motor, and power control unit to reduce weight and lower the center of gravity. The use of Silicon Carbide (SiC) power semiconductors in the inverter further enhances efficiency. The chassis has also been reinforced, with floor rigidity improved by 25%, and driving dynamics were refined at the Nürburgring.
Interior changes are extensive, inspired by the Lexus ES. The cabin features a new horizontal layout with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14-inch touchscreen. New features include the ‘Sensory Concierge’ system, which synchronizes lighting, scent, and climate, and haptic-feedback controls. The updated NX is expected to enter global markets starting in late 2026, with European availability following in early 2027.
