Leylah Fernandez withdraws from Hong Kong Open due to injury

Canadian tennis player Leylah Fernandez has withdrawn from the Hong Kong Tennis Open because of a shoulder injury. The 24-year-old from Laval, Quebec, was originally scheduled to compete against American Sofia Kenin in the first round.

This withdrawal follows a period of strong performance for Fernandez, who recently reached consecutive WTA Tour finals in Tokyo and Ningbo, China. Her recent results moved her up five spots to a world ranking of No. 18, her first return to the top 20 in over four years.

Britain’s Mika Stojsavljevic entered the tournament as a replacement for Fernandez and subsequently defeated Kenin with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
