Lezo and Pasaias mayors demand investigation into port fire

The mayors of Lezo and Pasaias have issued a joint demand for authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding a fire that occurred at the Port of Pasaias on August 21. Both leaders, Mikel Arruti and Teo Alberro, stated that the incident “cannot be considered normal” and have requested detailed reports from all competent administrations.

The mayors are seeking information regarding the origin of the fire, the types of materials involved, and the effectiveness of existing prevention measures. They are also calling for an analysis of how the emergency was managed and the subsequent impact on the environment, including effects on air, soil, and water.

Furthermore, the local governments have requested documentation concerning the communication protocols used between the port and the municipalities, as well as the deployment of the ES-Alert system and SMS notifications sent to citizens. They noted that they have yet to receive comprehensive technical information regarding the event.
