LFG Affluence mechanical failure disrupts Santos-Guarujá ferry service
The bulk carrier LFG Affluence experienced a mechanical failure and lost propulsion in the access channel to the Port of Santos, causing two interruptions to the ferry crossing between Santos and Guarujá on Tuesday.
To prevent the vessel from hitting the channel wall, a pilot performed emergency maneuvers, and two anchors were deployed to reduce speed while tugboats were summoned. The Santos Port Authority (APS) reported that five tugboats were required to guide the ship to its destination at warehouses 16 and 17, and eventually to public berth number 32.
The Brazilian Navy confirmed that the vessel remained within the navigation channel perimeter, and there were no collisions, injuries, or leaks reported. While the incident caused approximately 20 minutes of total stoppage for the ferry service, port activities were not interrupted.
