LFP to launch consultation for Ligue 1 broadcasting rights
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) is preparing to launch a market consultation as early as October regarding broadcasting rights for the 2029-2034 cycle. This move aims to stabilize the financial landscape for French clubs following a period of declining revenues and unstable partnerships.
Recent years have seen significant volatility, including the collapse of the MediaPro deal in 2020 and subsequent shifts involving Amazon, DAZN, and beIN Sports. The LFP is seeking to rebuild an attractive offering to prevent further economic fragility. Olivier Bramly, head of LFP Media, has reportedly engaged in discussions with various potential partners, including Amazon, Netflix, Paramount, Apple, and traditional broadcaster Canal+.
A key strategic shift may involve the ability to market rights as a single package rather than fragmented lots. This change could make the Ligue 1 product more appealing to major streaming platforms and traditional broadcasters by allowing them to offer the entire championship without sharing matches with competitors.
