LG and Sharp introduce new television technologies and OS strategies
Developments in television technology are highlighting new display methods and diverse operating system strategies. LG has introduced its Mini RGB evo series, which utilizes Tandem LED technology. Unlike traditional QLED or standard Mini LED, this system uses independent red, green, and blue light sources to reduce energy loss and improve color reproduction, aiming for 100% coverage of the DCI-P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces.
In a different approach to smart TV functionality, Sharp is implementing multiple operating systems across its product lineup to ensure hardware optimization and market suitability. At IFA 2026, the company showcased its use of Google TV for high-end models, TiVo OS for mid-range units, and Roku TV for the British market. Additionally, Sharp is utilizing TITAN OS, a Linux-based European alternative, for smaller models up to 43 inches to provide faster performance and technological independence.
