LG Chem and Volkswagen Group partner on eco-friendly mobility materials
LG Chem and Volkswagen Group have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the development and application of next-generation, eco-friendly mobility materials. The partnership aims to enhance vehicle performance and lightweighting through the use of high-performance plastics.
The collaboration will focus on utilizing LG Chem’s high-value synthetic resins, including Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) and Engineering Plastics (EP). These materials are known for their durability and impact strength, making them suitable for automotive interior and exterior components. Additionally, the companies will explore expanding the use of LG Chem’s recycled materials and cost-competitive solutions across Volkswagen Group’s major vehicle brands.
As part of the agreement, both parties will share technical trends and global market insights while cooperating on research and development to validate the application of specific materials. Volkswagen Group executives recently visited LG facilities, including the Osan CS Campus and Magok LG Science Park, to review solutions related to the circular economy, electrification, and high-functionality materials.
