LG Chem to liquidate 2.5 trillion won in LG Energy Solution shares
LG Chem has decided to dispose of approximately 2.5 trillion won worth of its holdings in LG Energy Solution. The company will utilize a Pre-arranged Return Swap (PRS) method to sell 6,535,939 common shares, which will reduce its stake in the battery maker from 79.38% to approximately 76.59%.
The proceeds from this transaction are intended to improve financial structures, such as repaying borrowings, and to secure resources for future growth investments.
As part of a shareholder return program, LG Chem plans to use approximately 400 billion won—about 20% of the after-tax cash inflow—to benefit investors. This includes 300 billion won allocated for the purchase and cancellation of treasury shares and the remainder to be used as a basis for dividends for the 2026 fiscal year. The company also announced plans to buy back and cancel approximately 1.39 million shares of its own stock between December 2024 and May 2025.
