LG Display and MSI announce new OLED manufacturing technologies

Display manufacturers are introducing new fabrication methods for OLED technology to improve efficiency and performance.

LG Display unveiled its FLiPP (FMM-Less innovative Pixel Patterning) technology at IMID 2026 in Busan, South Korea. This method replaces traditional fine metal masks with a UV photolithography process to define RGB sub-pixels. LG Display claims this approach increases the RGB pixel aperture ratio by approximately 55%, potentially resulting in 1.6 times more brightness, 2.4 times longer lifespan, and a 13% reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional methods. The process also allows for manufacturing on 8.5 generation glass sheets, avoiding the alignment issues associated with large metal masks.

Separately, MSI announced plans to release the PRO MAX OLED 271UPJW12 monitor in early 2027. This monitor will utilize Inkjet Printing (IJP) technology, a deposition process that uses inkjet printing to place organic materials for the pixels. The device will feature an RGB sub-pixel arrangement, which is intended to improve text clarity and color reproduction. The monitor is expected to launch with an approximate price of 699 euros.
