LG Electronics begins mass production of 5G smart telematics

LG Electronics has commenced mass production of its next-generation 5G Release 16 (R16)-based smart telematics solution. The technology integrates a communications module and up to 12 antennas into a single unit, moving away from traditional distributed antenna structures and external shark-fin antennas.

This integrated approach aims to reduce radio frequency (RF) cabling, lower vehicle weight, and decrease production costs. Such optimizations are particularly significant for electric vehicles, where weight reduction directly impacts range and efficiency. The solution features a scalable software platform designed to support various vehicle models.

LG has already begun deliveries of the solution to a premium European automaker, marking its first deployment in a production vehicle within the European market.
