LG Electronics emphasizes data privacy for Smart TVs in Nigeria

LG Electronics has reaffirmed its commitment to data privacy and user control for its Smart TV users in Nigeria. As smart home technology adoption grows, the company is emphasizing transparency regarding features such as voice recognition, Automatic Content Recognition (ACR), and personalized advertising.

LG stated that these advanced features are optional and require users to actively opt in. Customers can manage permissions, adjust settings, or withdraw consent through their TV settings without losing access to core functions like live television, streaming, or software updates.

Regarding voice-enabled technology, LG clarified that voice control is disabled by default. The system only activates when a user initiates a command via a remote button or a specific wake word. The company noted that its TVs do not continuously record or store ambient household conversations; audio not containing the designated wake word is processed locally and immediately discarded.
