LG Electronics opens new smart factory in Brazil

LG Electronics has commenced operations at its new appliance manufacturing facility in Paraná, Brazil. This marks the company's second production hub in the country, following its Manaus plant established in 1996.

The new factory is equipped with smart factory technologies, including AI-driven quality inspections, digital twin monitoring, and industrial robotics. It has an annual production capacity of approximately 600,000 refrigerators. By shifting from importing goods from Southeast Asia to local production, LG aims to reduce logistics costs and enhance price competitiveness in the Brazilian market.

To cater to local needs, the facility will produce refrigerators featuring dual-voltage capabilities (127V and 220V) and specialized functions like LED sterilization and rapid cooling. Strategically located in southern Brazil, the plant is intended to serve as an export hub for South American nations such as Argentina and Uruguay, leveraging Mercosur's duty-free trade benefits. This move aligns with LG's 'two-track' strategy of focusing on premium products in advanced markets while expanding volume in emerging 'Global South' economies.
