LG Electronics opens smart refrigerator factory in Brazil

LG Electronics has inaugurated a new smart manufacturing plant in Paraná, Brazil, marking its first major expansion in the country in 21 years. The facility represents an investment of approximately 1.5 billion reais (roughly $270 million to $310 million) and covers an area of about 770,000 square meters.

The plant is designed with high-tech automation, utilizing artificial intelligence, vision-based inspection systems, and industrial robotics to enhance production efficiency, quality, and workplace safety. It has an annual production capacity of between 500,000 and 600,000 refrigerators, which equates to roughly one unit every 14 seconds.

This facility serves as a strategic hub for the Latin American market. Due to its proximity to Argentina and the logistical and tariff advantages provided by Mercosur, LG plans to begin supplying the Argentine market from this plant by late 2026. The company projects selling 42,000 units in Argentina during 2027. The Paraná site is also designed to accommodate future product lines, such as washing machines.
