LG Electronics expands AI data center cooling solutions
LG Electronics is aggressively expanding its footprint in the AI data center cooling market by developing a comprehensive portfolio that spans air, liquid, and immersion cooling technologies. The company recently secured NVIDIA DSX Ready certification for its 2.5 MW capacity Coolant Distribution Unit (CDU), a large-scale solution designed to manage the intense thermal loads of next-generation AI accelerators like the NVIDIA Blackwell architecture.
To advance immersion cooling—a method where components are submerged in non-conductive specialized oil—LG Electronics has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with GS Engineering & Construction and the US-based immersion cooling specialist GRC. This partnership aims to develop integrated solutions and standardized designs for data centers, combining LG’s cooling technology with GS E&C’s architectural expertise and GRC’s immersion tank and control systems.
LG is also investing approximately 150 billion won to expand production lines in Pyeongtaek and Changwon, South Korea, and to establish a new chiller factory in Virginia, USA. The company reported that its orders for AI data center cooling solutions exceeded 600 billion won in the first half of this year, with expectations to reach several trillion won by year-end.
