LG Energy Solution begins production at new Michigan battery plant

LG Energy Solution (LGES) has commenced production at its new 226-acre facility in Lansing, Michigan. The plant is designed to manufacture large-format batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems (ESS).

At full-scale production, the facility aims to reach an annual capacity of more than 35GWh. The site will produce lithium-iron phosphate (LFP) battery cells for ESS, which are integrated by LG Energy Solution Vertech into utility and grid-scale storage systems. Additionally, the plant will produce nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) cells for Toyota. The project is expected to create up to 1,700 jobs and builds upon the company's existing investment of over $5 billion in Michigan since 2010.
