LG Innotek expands into AI sensors and substrates as profits surge
LG Innotek reported a significant rebound in its first-half performance, with operating profit nearly quadrupling to approximately US$401.96 million and revenue increasing 24% to US$8.22 billion. The South Korean supplier is diversifying its portfolio beyond mobile camera modules to focus on semiconductor substrates and physical AI technologies.
The company is aggressively expanding into the automotive sector through autonomous driving sensors, including lidar, radar, and cameras. To support this, LG Innotek has established partnerships with firms such as the US-based software developer Applied Intuition. Additionally, the company has entered the robotics market, producing camera modules for humanoid robots through agreements with Boston Dynamics and TDK.
In the semiconductor segment, LG Innotek aims to grow its package solution business into a core pillar, targeting US$647 million in operating profit by 2031. The company is seeing increased demand for FC-CSP substrates driven by AI growth, specifically for GDDR7 memory. Its Gumi plant is currently operating at full capacity to meet orders from global semiconductor customers.
