LG unveils windshield display concepts to curb driver distraction

LG Electronics is testing two windshield display concepts aimed at reducing driver eye‑movement and distraction. The UltraView Windshield Display combines a head‑up display with a virtual “Hover Screen”, projecting essential driving information at a fixed virtual distance while moving navigation, climate and media controls to a virtual screen 1.2 m ahead. The prototype offers a 25°‑wide by 7°‑high field of view and fits within a compact 15‑litre volume, complying with upcoming Euro NCAP 2026 safety protocols that favour “eyes‑on‑the‑road” designs.

The Wide Hover Screen concept expands the idea with a 20‑inch central console screen paired with an ultra‑short‑throw projector that creates a large HUD on the windshield. It adapts displayed data to driving conditions, offering urban navigation cues, track‑mode vehicle parameters, and off‑road terrain assistance. Both concepts remain in the demo stage with no announced production timeline or vehicle models.

LG’s vehicle‑solution division, led by president Eun Seok‑hyun, submitted the UltraView system as a finalist for the PACE Pilot Award 2026, signalling the company’s intent to improve cabin ergonomics and safety through augmented‑reality displays.
