LG Uplus and Toss Mobile launch Face Pay integrated MVNO plans
The South Korean telecommunications market is shifting its competitive focus from price to value-added services. As major carriers like SK Telecom, KT, and LG Uplus expand low-cost 5G and LTE plans, MVNOs (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) are differentiating themselves by integrating lifestyle benefits such as payments and convenience store discounts.
LG Uplus and Toss Mobile recently launched five types of MVNO plans integrated with Face Pay, a facial recognition payment service. These plans, which range from 7GB to 100GB of data, have seen significant interest from younger demographics, with 56% of subscribers belonging to the 20-30 age group. Subscribers can receive up to 58,000 won in payment benefits over a 24-month period.
Additionally, LG Uplus is promoting the Toss X CU plan through its integrated MVNO platform, Al-dot, which offers discounts at CU convenience stores. This trend follows a slowdown in MVNO subscriber growth, as net inflows from major carriers dropped significantly compared to the previous year.
