LG Uplus establishes biodiversity garden at Hwadamsup

LG Uplus, in collaboration with the LG Evergreen Foundation, has established a ‘Biodiversity Garden’ at Hwadamsup in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. The garden covers approximately 1,600 square meters and features 10,000 plants, including 120 species of native and endemic Korean plants such as Geumgangchorong flowers and Ulleung chrysanthemum.

The project integrates IoT technology to assist in garden maintenance. LG Uplus has deployed wireless solutions, including underground soil component monitoring sensors to measure moisture and acidity, as well as IoT sensors to detect facility vibrations and tilts. The collected data will be used to monitor the health of the soil and the stability of the garden's infrastructure.

Rather than creating a separate exhibition space, the garden utilizes the existing terrain and background forest of Hwadamsup to allow visitors to observe native species naturally along existing walking paths. LG Uplus stated that biodiversity conservation is a key environmental management task for the company as it addresses the impacts of climate change.
